Fine mutton is at 29s 6d, medium 255, fine beef 26s 63, medium 24s 6d. . Later.—Wool is brisk. Merinos are firm.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. By Telegraph—Frees Association —Copyright Received 9.45 p,m., Jan 26. Sydney, Jan. 26. At the Homebueh sales sheep were dearer. Best wethers brought 163 6d to 17s 6d. good 15s 6d to 16e, best owes 16s t,o 17s, good 15s to 15s 6d. Cattle were easier. Bsst bullocks £9 5s to £lO 10s, good £8 ss, best cows £7 Bs, good £4 15s, beef 28s 6d. Melbourne, Jan. 26. Hides: There was a brisk demand for all sections at unchanged prices. Stouts brought 4£d to heaviest 4d to average and medium 3d to 3Jd. Tallow iB dull of sale, quotations, a pound to lower. (Per Press Association.) Napier, Inst night. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company has received the following cable from London : A further heavy fall in the jjvaluo of mutton, having declined l-8d and North Island Jd. Beef has also declined £d. Quotations : Canterbury mutton, lington and North Island. 4d ; lamb, first quality 6Jd ; beef, hinds fores 2Jd.
The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, received the following cable yesterday from their London office : “ Since close of last sales prices are higher by id for merino lambs. Competition is not so keen for medium and coarse qnslity of crossbred, forjwhich, since opening of sales, prices are lower from par to 44 per lb. Tallow : present spot values of tallow —Fine mutton 28s per cwt, good beef 24s 6d, mixed 20s 3d. Market dull.”
