The City Council to-night received a letter from the Education Board stating that it had arranged to carry on technical classes for the first term of the yoar in the hope of receiving an oiler from the City Council or other local bodies to undortake its management. The Council Bet np a Bpeoial committee to inquire into the mattor. Tho Tepia bath committee tabled a roport, which waa roferrod back for farther consideration, A DENIAL. Mr T. W. Davoy, who recently startod business in Cbristohurch as a com mission and land agont, states it is not corroot that he has accepted tho agency of the Government Fire Insurance Department. Mr Davoy has no connection with the department whatever. DESERTION. (Per Press Association.) Napier, last nigbi. The four firemen from the steamor, South Australia, were to day sentenced to foui teen days’ imprisonment for desertion, and one of them, Barnett, was also sentenced to a further term for assaulting the . eaptain.
