WEEKLY DAY OF REST.
VICTORIAN PREMIER SPEAKS OUT
Melbourne, Jan, 10. The State Premier, Mr Beat, agrees with the Rev. Mr Marshall, who, at Scots’ Church yesterday, pleaded for “a weekly rest-day as a national necessity.” « a weekly rest-day, that’s the point 1 remarked Mr Bent to-day. “I have always,” ho asserted, “laid stress on that. In opposing the opening of the public library on Sunday, I have done so because I am afraid it would make some work on the workman’s day of rest, and Send towards creating more labour. While I think that children should be sent to church and Sunday school, and taught to yrorsbip and revere God, I speaking as a Minister of the Crown or member of Parliament, have always left the religious aspect out of the question. . “ I have said before, and I say again, let us preserve one day a week as intact as wo can as a dov of rest. It is a boon, the pricelossness of which, I am afraid, is only properly appreciated by those who have lost it-” ... , , 0 •• Would you etop all teams aod trams !
