At Ilis Majes'ty's Theatre last evening, during the interval, Mi: George Stephenson made a graceful speech that was highly complimentary to Gisborne. 1-ic returned thanks for live liberal patronage accorded to iiis company during the local season. It was, he said, gratifying to come to the town to see such a ereitlitabic theatre... Gisborne deserved to have visits from first-class companies, because their support was so liberal. It bail required a great deal of consideration oil his pari before he could decide on coming to Gisborne With such an expensive company as the present one. However, the strong support they had accorded him had assured a most successful season. In future strong combinations from England anil America visiting New Zealand would be ceitain to include Gisborne in the tour. • (Applause.) The productions given here had been staged and mounted in tile same manner as they wore presented in Sydney and Melbourne, with tho exception of the eieetric light, anti this he hoped to sec on the occasion of his next visit. Mr Stephenson concluded his remarks by again thanking the large audience for the liberal patronage accorded.
