KUMABA’S MAYOR THREATENS
REBELLION,

At a largely attended indignation meeting held at Kumara last evening, a protest was passed against the action of the Go* vernment in Buing for arrears due by<th£miners of the district, including Goldsborongh and Stafford, for water supplied from the Government water ra*fe. and also opposition to the proposal what ml future water should be paid for in advance. Resolutions condemnatory of the Government’s action were carried witji great enthusiasm, speakers pointing out that the proposed procedure was most detrimental to the mining industry and impossible of performance owing to the poor nature of the olaims, and strict eulfaroe. ment would mean dosing down the wholt goldfield. Several vigorous speeches were made The Mayor presided, and in the ooct'se oi his remarks declared that if the proposal to pay in advance was enforced, he would have no hesitation in leading a mob and forcibly opening the gauge-bos of*- the dam. The feeling cf opposition runs high throughout the affected districts.
