I The births in New South Wales last I year numbered 37.697, which is the largest I number since 1897 ; the birth rate being I 26‘77 per 100 compared with 25,28 in 1903. Professor Daysz estimates the cost of destroying rabbits by his process at from Ll2 to L2O for 2500 acres. I Reports from Northern New Hebrides indicate that the natives are inclined to further hostilities against tho white settlers. A number of armed men recently made threatening demonstrations on the Marist mission, and also reported that a trader who disappeared was tomahawked. Melbourne, Jan. 19. The Earl of Meath has written to Mr Reid concurring his suggestion that Em pire Day should be celebrated on the King’s Birthday.
