.THE LONDON WOOL MARKET.

By Electric Telegraph:—Per Press Association—Copyright. London, Jan. 18. Wool is brisk of sale. Tho Americans are operating freely. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. For tho third wool sale of tho season n little over 20,000 bales were catalogued, including a large number of station clipßi tho selection being one of tho best offered at local sales. The wool is very bright and clean, but heavier in greaßO than that offered at tho two provious sales. Thore is a large attendance of Home, foreign and local buyers, and keen competition for best halfbred and croßßbred wools, which were firmer, but low grades were easier, and thore was a poor demand for merino and most of tho larger clips were passed. Tho range of prices during the forenoon was : Morino 93d to 113 d, halfbred BJd to 12d, throequartorbred BJd to 93d, crossbred BJd to lOd, longwood 83d to 9Jd, Shropshire BJd to 9Jd, merino pieces 7Jd to 93d, halfbred pieces 73d to 9jd, crossbred pieces 63d to Bd, looks 43d. to 6d. Napier, last night. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company have received the following cable from sheir London office : Canterbury mutton is scarce. The price has advanced one-eighth. North Island has fallen another eighth. Quotations for Canterbury mutton are 4 o-Bd, Napier, Wellington, and North Island 43d ; lamb, first quality, new season’s, 63d ; beef, hind 3 33d, fore 3 3d. A SUCCESSFUL SALE. (Per Pre.'is Association.) Christchurch, last night. The third series of wool saleß for the Boason was held to-day, all but star lots being disposed of by eleven o’clock; 20,444 bales were catalogued. The wool generally was in good condition and wellgrown. At the opening there was an absence of demand for merinos, and though a slight improvement came later the bulk of fleeces was passed; pieces, however, sold well. Good half bred improved on the last salo’s values, and an increase of about half a ponny was recorded in the best half and three-quarter breds. The following were the prices: —Merinos, superior,KbV to 113 d ; medium to g00d,93d to 103 d; inferior, 8.3 dto 9d; half-breds, superior lid to li’.d. medium to good 9Jd to IOJd, inferior £3d to 93d; threequartorbred, superior l()d to 101-d, medium to good 93d to 93a, inferior 83d to 9d ; crossbred (coarse), eupnrior93-d to 103 d, medium to good 9a to 9ja, inferior 8d to 83d; pieces, merino an 1 halfbreds, superior S_3d to lOd, medium tn good 73d to 83d, inferior 63d to 7d, crossbreds 6d to Bd.

Best wethers brought 163 to 18s 3d, good 15s to 15s 6d, best ewes 15s to 17s. Cattle showed a decided advance.
