EXPLOSION OF DYNAMITE.
(Per Press Association. 1 ) AucklaDid, last night. A violent explosion, which was hoard all over the city and suburbs occurred at 1.15 this morning. It was feared by some that the shock had volcanic origin, while the police actively searched far safe dynamiters. AH kinds of sensational rumors prevailed until it was found that a wooden shanty in Kybor Pass, Newmarket, used as a tool shed and dynamite store in connection with a quarry had been blown up. Steel tools worth Ll2 were missed, and it is suggested that the thieves blew up the shed to secure them. Only 2£lbs of dynamite was in the shed, but judging from the manner in which the wreckage was scattered and the tremendous explosion, quite 201bs must have been exploded. The remains of a fuse was found near the shanty. Two windows of an adjacent were smashed.
