ROWING.
POVERTY BAY ROWING CLUB. Owing to McGuffie, the bow man in MoOonnell’s boat, being unable to row, Somerville was awarded the race by default. To-night the semi-final of tho double sculls for Mr Ellerbeck’s trophies will be rowed, J. Smith and Schrafft meeting W. Hackett and A. Sawyer. This should be the race of the season, as both crews are in good condition. To-morrow night Somerville and H. Lynch meet M. Oman and B. Lucas, and tho final will be rowed on Saturday night. After these events are over the single sculls for Mr F. Harris’ trophy will come on for decision. There is already a buzz of excitement among the members, and there will be an opportunity of comparing the merits of some of the aspiring champions with the old-timers, including R. Jones, the unbegdon champion of the shed. R. Kellet, C. Taylor, W. Hackett, and J. Webb, who also put in some good work on the river some six or seven seasons since, will also compete.
