The Hospital Trustees meet at 2 p.m. to-day. Gas Company’s accounts must be paid by to-morrow. The Gisborne Racing Club’s privileges are to be sold at noon on Saturday. Captain Edwin reported yesterday : “ Moderate to strong westerly winds ; glass rise ; tides moderato.” Sergeant MoKenzio and family, oi Auckland, arrived by the Zoalandia yesterday. Messrs Williams and Kettle at 2 this afternoon dispose of Mrs F. BonsQeld’s hord of choice dairy cows. Mails despatched from Auckland via San Francisoo on December 16th arrived in London on January 16th. The adjourned annual meeting of the Gisborne Hospital contributors will bo held at 8 to-night. - At 2 p.m. to-day Messrs Williams and Kettle will offer by public auction, at her Wainui farm, the wholo of Mrs F. Bousfield's choice dairy oows without reserve. Messrs Clayton Bros., contractors for the erection of Mr T. G. Lawless’s fine two-storied building opposite the bowling green on Kaiti, expect to have the work finished early next month. The promises have been leased to Mrs H. Warren. The Star of New Zealand Tent of Recbabites held its fortnightly meeting last evening, Sister A. Patterson, Chief Ruler, presiding. The balance sheet for the past quarter was presented and adopted. Mr Reg Skeet, injured by falling down the hold of the Karamea, still lies in a critical state, but his condition last evening was more hopeful. A fracture of the base i of the skull was sustained, but no opera- ’ tion will be necessary. The patient is i being attended to by Dr Morrison. The Volunteer encampment at Kaiti has been favored with fine weather for the week's training. Under StaffSergeant Major Williams the corps have received valuablo instruction, and have entered into the spirit of their work with military enthusiasm. Monday’s Star states:—“The s.s. Victoria brought the Auokland competitors from Gisborne yesterday, the bowlers having a ploasant trip in fine weather. They expressed themselves as thoroughly satisfled with the tournament, which was the best managed ever promoted by the Northern Bowling Association. The hospitality of their Gisborne colleagues also materially holped in making their visit enjoyable. The best performance of the Auckland representatives was achieved by Carlton, who were the runners-up in the fours competition, the final of which excited so much interest that the green was lined by 400 or 600 people. The Aucklandeis generally boat Gisborne on the Bhort hoads, bnt wore not so aucoeßsful when the Gisborne players had the jack and gave long heads.” Bobort Thomas Smythe, formerly of Napier,' and latterly of Gisborne, has become insolvent. The following is an approximate timetable of the movements of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamers:— • The Kaikoura will be despatched from Wellington for London on the 28th January; the Perthshire, at presont in the South, will leave Auckland, homeward bound, on the 31st January ; the Kaipara loft London on the 6th December, and is due at Port Chalmers on 22nd January. ’ She leaves the colony for London on 18th February, l’he Papanui left London on 3rd December, and is due at Wellington on the 21st January. She will be despatched for London on 16th February. The Itakaia loft London on 7th January, and is due at Auckland on 3rd March. The Rimutaka left London on 31st December, and is duo at Wellington on 14th February. She leaves the colony on 16th March. The Tongariro will leave London on 28th January ; due in Wellington on 14th March ; leaves for Home on the 13th April. The Paparoa will leave London on 25th February, and is duo at Wellington on 14fch April, She will be despatched for London on 11th May. A oouimitteo meeting of the Bowling Club was hold last ovoning when it was decided to call for entries for Mr Simson’s trophy. This gamo is going to cause groat interest, the donor stipulating that 31 heads aro to bo played,and each player to use two bow's only. The players will bo dividsd into sections and some good play should result. Entries also are to be takeD for Mr Cunningham’s special prize, whioh is to bo played for by this year’s new players only. This should bring forward many aspirantß and result in close finishes, as many of the beginners are showing good form. The handicap limit in this match will be five points.
