BONA FIDE TRAVELLER.
(Per Press Association.) - r Christchurch, last nighitf Major Eeddel, S.M., gave a rescued judgmoni in tho case of a Sumner can, charged with selling liouor on Sunday to bona fido travellers. Ho said : “ I am of opinion that under the law as it now stands a traveller cannot demand or bo supplied with liquor during the time at which licensod premises are directed to be closed.” Defendant was convicted and fined a nominal sum of £1 and costs without endorsement. Defendant will appeal. Tho cases against 11 men, charged with having boon on accused's premises during tho time they should havo been closed were dismissed. Tho defence wac that they were genuine bona fido travellers and the Magistrate hold that the law as it' : at present stood contained no penalty for ' genuine travellers being on premises. Halliday, licensee of the Wellington hotel," was convicted of permitting drunkenness on Deoember 28, and was fined L 3 and costs, without an endorsement on the license,
