It ia pleasing to noto that the theatregoers have manifested such a keen interest in the impending season of Mr George Stephenson’s English Musical Comedy Company as is evidenced by the surprisingly heavy demand for seats as His Majesty’s Theatre yosterday morning for $ each performance. There is little doubt . that the season of four nights only, which t will eomruenco at His Majesty’s Theatre 1 on Wednesday evening next in the re--3 markably successful musical play “ The . Rose of the Riviera,” will prove ono of , the most auspicious in the annals of Gisborne theatricals. The advent of this ; talented combination seems to bo tho \ absorbing topic of conversation. This is i not remarkable when one understands tho widespread popularity the company has gained throughout Now Zealand, and for months past the merits of the plays have been enthusiastically recognised in the columns of tbo leading newapapors. In Auckland at the present moment hundreds are being turned away nightly, and the season there, which concludes on Monday, will prove one of the most notable in the history of that city. Mr Stephenson has spared no oxpenso in the matter of the productions, which he will stage in their entirety. The present combination is generally regarded as one of tho strongest that ha 3 ever toured New Zealand, and the presence of such notable artistes as Misses May Beatty, May Garstang, Alice Nixon, Ada Page, Messrs Edward Lauri, Chas. MoNaughton, Wm. and Chas. Bovis, Rty Sidney, and Fred Twitchin should bo tt o surest guarantee as to the excellence of tbß performance.
