CHADWICK SWINDLES.
A WOMAN'S FRAUDS.
(Per s.s. Ventura at Auokland). San Francisco. Dec 28. The case of Mrs Chadwiok is attracting immense interest. It is stated that it will eclipse the famous Humbert swindle. Forged notes, bearing Carnegie's sianatnre, put afloat by this woman amounted to nearly fonr millions sterling. She has now been identified as Elizabeth Bigley, born at Woodstook. When 22 years old she was aeoused of forgery, but was aoquitted on the grounds of insanity. She was then, aa later, aeoused of hypnotising her victims. She is 45 sr more years old, but she has plentuous beauty and plenty of expedients. She is now under arreßt awaiting trial, while some of her viotims are in a sorry plight.
