The sufferer was brought to Wellington Hospital. • Jus. .S. Cross, well known in shipping circles at Wellington and Nelson, tiled in the hospital last night from paralysis. At an iiuj]iiest' to-day on Hobday, one of tno victims of the yachting fatality on New Year's Bay, conflicting evidence was given as to whether the t yacht could lrave put back with' safety when signalled by the Mararoa to do so. The evidence also showed that the inspection of yachts by the Yachting Club was laoc, and no lifebelts or lifebuoys were aboard the Te Aroha. HOKITIKA, last night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day a pnblioan was charged with selling liquor during prohibited hours on Sunday. The evidence showed that •the lodger of a hotel paid for drinks consumed, and it was argued this course was permissable under the Act, the amendment not affecting the rights of a lodger to entertain his friends. The Bench upheld the contention and dismissed the charge. Tho men supplied with liqu,or were previously charged, and being undefended were fined. TIMA'RU, last night. A' foot was found on the Ninetymile beach on Friday night two miles south of Rangitata mouth. It has beon identified as belonging to John Mills, one of the party of three drowned at sea on Anniversary Bay.
INVERCARGILL, last night. At the Polico Court Fanny Hall was fined £lO for supplying drink to Eliza Hurley, a prohibited person; and the latter was fined £5 each on •two informations for procuring drink, in default two months’ imprisonment. i Mr Jacob Aloweider announcos j himself as a candidate for Wallace, in, the Liberal, labor-, and prohibition interests.
