BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
The North Island Bowling Tournament opens on Monday next and will extend for over a week. Twenty four teams have entered, which will be divided into two sections. The following are the entries; Bemuora, Ponsonby, Auckland, Rocky Nook, Mount Eden and Carlton (from the northern' ' city), Wellington, Victoria, Petone s(from the Empire city), Napier, Hastings, and Greenmoadows (from Hawkes Bay), New Plymouth, Pates. Hawera, Wanganui, Pahiatua, Masterton, FeildiDg, Dannevirke, and the four local clubs, Gisborne, Whataupoko, Haiti and Te Ban. -
The arrangements for the gathering are as complete as'possible, everything being in readiness for the arrival of the Association’s secretary, Mr Mentiplay, to arrange final details. Mr Mentiplay and the Southern bowlers arrive on Satnrday morning and the Northern bowlers on Sunday.
Play will commence at 9 a.m. on Monday. Should time permit the champion lamglee competition (one member represer ting each Cine) will be played. The Gisborne representative bowling l taah? are shoeing excellent form, especially I the veteran sjrip Ponsford. who played, anorha* excellent game yesterday. Two matches were played yegtenbiy afternoon,
the first resulting in an easy victory for the representatives. The second match against the Haiti representative toam was very evenly contested to the last head. On the twentieth head Ponsford’s team were two behind, but on the final head the Qis: borne team secured four points, thus winning by two.
