THE OLD 'AND THE NEW.
The Old ,Year will soon have passed, 'away, and gijveni birth to the.. New. It is usual at such a time to make a review, of the past year, and even in" some cases to make forecasts for the coming year., It is well that we should attach considerable sentimcncal value upon the change of years, that the vicissitudes of the past, should be duly reflected on, and that therefrom lessons should be obtained for guidance in the future. In national matters the past year hasbeen mainly notable for the good work done by King, Edward at Home and abroad, and uhe question of reform of the fiscal policy. In the near future there must ‘come the crisis in Par Eastern affairs. The outlook at present is ominous, and both are showing a very determined front. Generally speaking, however, the prospects lor the New Year appear excellent. We take the opporlunity ef wishing all A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR,
