The following additional appointments have been made to the Tariff Commission :—Sir Robert Herbert, chairman ; Sir George Ryder, late chairman of tho Board of Customs ; Clements Smith, formerly Governor of the Straits Settlements; Sir John Cockburn, Agent-General for South Australia ; Frederick Baques, Manchester cotton manufacturer ; Henry Bostoek, boot manufacturer; Stafford Charles Eckersley, director of the Fine Cotton Spinners’ Association ; Francis Elgar, managing director of tho Fairfield Shipbuilding Company; Lewis Evans, vice-president of the Papermakers’ Association ; Thomas Gallaher, Tobacco Manufacturer ; Belfast Alfred Gibbey, director of the U. and A. ; Gilby W. Harrison, proßident of the Agricultural Engineers' Association ; Johnstone Keswick, chairman of the Riotinto Company ; Charles Lyle, chairman of AbrahamjC'Lylo and Sons’ Sugar Refiners ; Henry D. Marshall, Britannia Iron Works ; Gainsborough Joseph Rank, ClareDce Flourmills, Hull ; Bridges Webb, chairman of the Baltic Shipping Exchange.

The members of tho Tariff Commission state it is not within their scope to define the nature of arrangements in regard to Colonial trade, or make representations regarding preferential trade. The colonies will be asked to have such matters settled by negotiations. Colonial members of the Commission hold watching briefs only.
