A tariff reform referendum, taken by the Daily Mail, embraced 540,779 adults, including 501,040 in England and Wales; 255,358 Parliamentary voters voted, also 111,817 women ; 238,894 favored retaliation, 166,606 froetrado, 141,279 preference ; 99,545 English Parliamentary voters favored retaliation, 73,614 freetrade, and 60,987 preference.
