A gentleman who was in the Mount Cook district a short time ego states (says the Lyttelton Times) that when the Government huts were first erected a great deal of amusement was afforded by tho antics of the keas. They seemed to think that the huts had been placed there for their special benefit, and they gave themselves up to tobogganing, evidently deriving much pleasure from the pastime as they slid along the sloping iron roofs. The Melbourne City Council has re-' selved to ask the Government to introduce a Bill to alter the incidence of taxation under the Fire Brigade Act, so that instead of the Government, the municipalities, and the tire insurance companies each subscribing one-third of the cost, the fire insurance companies shall be required to contribute one-half, and the municipalities and the Government one-fourth each,
