(Per Press 'Association.) NELSON, last night. A citizens’ banquot to Colonel Pitt, in honor of his appointment an AttorneyGeneral, was held in tho Council Chambers last uight. Thnro was a representative attendance. Tho Mayor presided, The occasion was non-political. The usual complimentary speeches were made. Tho Government and city were congratulated on tho choice of Coloucl Pitt to the offieo.
In his reply Colonel Pitt reviewed tho work of last session, but retrained from any controversial matter, dwelling at some length on local topics. GREYMOUTH, last night.
A man named John Hughes, while driving in a trap, collided with a dray and was thrown out, receiving severe wounds and concussion of the brain. Ho was taken to the hospital, whero be died this morning. He was ono of the oldest residents of tho Coast.
A dredge hand named Gilroy, while working at the North Beach dredge to-day, had his hand fearfully mangled through getting caught in tho cog wheels. It is hoped to save a portion of his hand. The accident was a very misty one.
