COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Williams and Kettle and the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, held their fortnightly stock sale at the Matawbero saleyards yesterday, instead of Thursday. The attendance was about up to tho average, and the yardinga in all departments were good. Sheep : About 1500 were yarded, mostly wethers. That sheep were in great demand was clearly shown by tho bidding at yesterday’s sale. Competition was keen, with the result that very few pens were left unsold when the hammer fell. The following are the prices : Forward wethers 12s Id, store do 13s, 13s 6d, and 13s Bd, two-tooth wethers (good line) 10s 9d to 123 Id, two, four, six, and eight tooth ewes 8s 9d to 11s.

, Cattle : The yarding of this class wa3 very large and of exceptionally good i quality. About 800 head were yarded, including 300 heifers from station. At the beginning of the cattlo sale bidding was slack, but towards tho end competition became much keener, mo3t of the lines being sold under the hammer. The prices ruled a 3 follows : Yearling steers £3 19s to £3 17s, mixed weaners up to £2 183 6d, station cows (good lines) £5 11s, dairy cows £4 10s (o £los, cows (good beef) £6 5s to £6 10s, 2| year-old heifers (Waipiro station) £6, pure-bred Shorthorn heifers £5 2s 6d, young steers £4 10s, calves from 35s to £3 ss, cows in calf £4 ss, fat bullocks £7. Pigs: About 20 were yarded, and all sold under the hammer, realising the following prices : Light baconers up to 365, Reapers 12s 6d.
