TAREWA NOTES.

,(From Our Own Correspondent.)

After considerable delay owing to the changeable weather, the work of shearing is now progressing satisfactorily, and some of. the woodsheds are chock-a-block with wool.

The district is now looking afcjts best. All the hills are green, and there is an abundance of feed everywhere. The sheep are looking .well, and a considerable number of “ fats ” leave this week for the .Gisborne freezing works. A nice herd of. tliree-year-old bullocks, about 400 in number, in charge of Mr F. Bousfield, passed through Tarewa the other day on their way to Napier. The cattle were bred by Mr J. Macfariane, of Tolago Bay, and were a nice .pven lot. They, were in good condition, and had evidently, been carefully driven. "

A meeting of the Morere District School Committee was held in the Schoolroom on Wednesday afternoon. The members present were Messrs Shaw (Chairman), Tait, J. Reynolds, and A. Mclntyre. Corrcsponiiondence was read from the Secretary of the Education Board relative to the closing of tho School for the Christmas holidays. Mr Mayo reported that owing to the changeable weather the average attendance during the past quarter had not been good. Two. tenders were received for a quantity of surplus timber lying on the School ground. Mr M. Shaw’s tender of £1 15s was accepted. Tlie Chairman was authorised to have some improvements effected on the School ground, and also to procure some school requisites.
