COSTLEY HOME.
THE PREMIER’S REPRIMAND.
Per Press 'Association
Auckland, last night. The following letter from the Premier ice the Costley Home, was read at a meetir ig of the Charitable Aid Board to day : —I have the honor to forward you herewitf i a copy of the report of the Commission of Enquiry in connection with tho Cost; ley Homo. Not to use a stronger term the condition of things thus disclosed i 8 mo3t regrettable. The Board must, I am s ure, feel deeply concerned that such a stat 3 of things should have gone on in an institution under its control, and for which it must be held responsible. I bog further to intimate that the Government request that the recommendations of the Commission may be given effect to by the Board. and an intimation to that effect will, I hope., be given to the Government at an earl-y date. In fact, I would suggest that a special meeting of the Board be called at onoo to consider tbe report ol the Commission. As head of the Government I feel constrained to say it would ha undesirable, reprehensible,, ami eoutrar.v to public policy that fiirlher public money should bo gcantcd Id aid of an in»i; tutiou which has been, so mismanaged. The comfort, health, and well-being of tho inmates shonld be the first care of all.
