LAND BOARD.

A special rr.eetibg of the Hawke’s Bay Laud Board was held yesterday morning when tho following- members were present: -The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr E. C. Gold-Smith (in the choir); Messrs G. Matthowson,, T. Hyde, R. R.. Groome, and C. It. Baines.

Messrs Stephenson, Warren, and Cruikshank wroto requesting the Land Boaicf. to reconsider forfeiture of section 1, block V., Ngatapa, tho rent having been paid.—Mr V. Barker appeared in support of the apt plication.—Tho Board decided to grant the request of applicants, and transfer the section from Messrs Stephenson, Warren, und Cruikshank to Mr J 3. J. Williams. - A , Edward Richardson applied to compiletho freehold of section 14, blocUkllHj Motu.—Approved. , George Rossrausson applied to have secrion 27 udded to his lease of section 17,

instead of having two leasos. I —£iQfs to the Commissioner to deal with.

P. M. Hausen applied to have section 25 added to his leaso of section 16, block 11., Motu.—Left to the Commissioner to deal with.

John L. Spence applied for permission to reserve 150 acres round his homestead in S.G.R. 41, Hangaroa.— Surveyor to report; - - , Samuel Baker .applied to sub-divide 0.R.P., lease 280, over sections 4 and 11, block XV., Motu, and to transfer section

11 to L. G. Shaw.—To stand over pending report. '

H. B. Livingstone applied to transfer section 23, block VIII,, Hangaroa, to W. Jobson, junr.—Approved. J. N. Spence applied to transfer seotion 1, block X.. Uawa, to John Dobson, —Held over pending Ranger’s report. Charles Parsons applied to tranfer section 5, block 111., Oere, Elsthorpo Estate, to A. W. Kendordine.—Approved. T. L. Ready applied to transfer section 3, block IX., Ngatapa, to J. F. Pottie. —Mr Nolan waited on the Board, and stated that applicant had a man who was willing to take the section over and pay the rent if an extension were granted for improvements. Tho difficulty in the past had been want of road access.—The Board decided that they could not entortain the application.

1 ’ ' WIGAN ESTATE. Twenty-three applications wero received for the sections in the Wigan estate. The applicants were examined as to their fitness and qualifications to take up the land. Two applicants in one sootion voluntarily withdrew owing to threo mombers of one family being the sole applicants for one seetion, two were rejected as not being eligible, and two other applicants were thrown out on the ground that they wero not landless at present. For small grazing run 87 eight applications were passed by the Board, two for section 2, block X, two for 3, block 10, and one each for block VI., 3, block'lX., 1, block VI., 8, block V., and 3 block VI. The ballot takes place at 10 am. to-day. Applications will also bo recoived for sections not disposed of at tho ballot, and if necessary a second ballot will be hold.

The following sections were allotted : Section 3, block IX,, Mabol Perry, Arakihi; seotion 1, block VI., Benjamin Jolley, Tolago Bay ; section 2, block VI., R. C. Craig, Waorenga-a kuri ; seotion 3, block VI., Michael Mullaney, Gisborne ; section 3, block V., Alexander Aikenhead, Wellington. DATE OF MEETINGS.

The Board passed a resolution confirming the date appointed for the Land Board’s meetings during 1904, viz., at Napier on tho second Friday in each month, and at Gisborno on tho 9th January, April and July, and October 15th. — Harried,
