RIFLES’ CAMP CONCERT.

The concert given by tbo Gisborne Rifles last evening on the parade ground,

Kaiti, was largely attended, and was a highly successful function. Tbo first soleo tion on the programme was a song 11 1 have made up my mind to sail away,” by Lance-Corporal Gush, which was much applauded. The captain of the corps then followed with-the song, *• Why Rouse the British Lion,” given in his best style. “ Ttuo Till Death,” by Sergeant T. Porter, was loudly enoored, and ho responded with “ Awkward Squad ” and “ Novor Again.” A comic song by Bandsman Penall, “ Penny. Whistle,” received an encore, and ho repliod with “ Lost Carlo.” \ “ The Sloepiug Camp ” was well given by Private Alloo. Staff Sorgeant-Major Wilsang “ Queen of the Earth” in a very Tigrooable manner, and Lieutenant Lewis followed with- “A Soldier and a Man,” which ho gavo in fine styls. A oomio lecture by Mr T. C. Williams caused great laughter. Private Solomon Kiwi was heard - to advantage in the song I “ Tell me, will my Dream Como Truo,” [ and Bandsman Penall sang a very clover k parody on " Sons of the Sea,” and as an encore number he song “ I Didn't Like to.” A rcoitatioD, ‘‘The Siege of Orokau,” was very well given by a visitor at the camp, and was followed by another song from Lance-Corporal Gush, “ Asleep in tho Deep,” which was well given. A reci tation by. tho drill instructor, Staff Ser-geant-Major Williams, entitled “ Pat and his Musket;" occasioned rnuoh mirth. A duet, “ A Night in Venice,” was excellently rendered by Sergeant T. Porter and Private Solomon Kiwi. Mr George Goldsmith sang the comic song ‘‘The Horse the Missus Dries tho Clothes on,” and was loudly applaudod. The singing of “ God Save tho King ” terminated a very successful concert. During the evoning the • Gisborno Rifles Band playod several selecH tions in ar finished manner. Mr James ■ played the accompaniments throughout tho ovening. The piano used was kindly lent by Lieutenant Lowis. The visitors were givon a very recheroho supper by tho corps, and returned to town highly delighted with their visit to the camp.
