A FATAL FALL

While an artisan was crossing a street at Hanley, Staffordshire, a ■forgotten colliery shaft, 200 ft" deep, suddenly opened and swallowed him. The planks covering the shaft were rotten and covered with earth. Rescue was impossible. A second man just escaped.
