A Russian note replying to Japan has been received rt Tokio, but tho contents have not been disclosed, The Government are calm and confident.

In tho bye-elections for Armidalo and Moree, as tho result of tho resignation of the late members to run for Federal honors, tho returns are incomplete, but Kearney and Stirton, Opposition reform candidates, are leading iu both cases. Tho positions are unlikely to he materially altered. Hobart, Dec. 13. Arrived, the Tokomaru ; sho sails at 10 in the morning for Wellington. She landed 16 passengers, and 114 are proceeding.
