WIFE DESERTION.

They were now resident in Queensland, where the man, who had taken about £3OO with him, was an hotelkeeper. A committee was appointed to interview the Inspector of Police. OTAGO PATRIOTIC FUND.
Accounts of the Otago Patriotic Fund Committee show that since its inception about 630 men have been assisted with small grants, The more serious cases in addition to the above number about 220. Some 50 men were assisted out of Lloyds’ fund, and 45 out of the Mansion Houpp fund, tho men in the latter two oases being from all parts of the colony, in addition to a good many relatives and dependants of those who lost their lives at the front were assisted. An additional £SOO grant from Lloyds’ fund is not being distributed, and the balance of the local fund is £741145,
