(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night,
Mr Field, secretary of the Wellington Employers’ Association, has been appointed organising secretary to the Employers’ Federation. After the third trial, the jury in the charges of keeping a common gaming house against Eagar and Sturgeon, failed to agree. The case will be mentioned in the Court again on Wednesday. Judgment was reserved by Mr Justice Cooper to-day in the action Commissioner of Taxes v. the Eastern Extension Company, the question involved being whether taxation could be charged on the whole of the profits from receipts in the colony or only on sums paid for transmission over the cables to Australia. In the Divorce Court to-day, J. P. Ramsay, of Masterton, was granted a decree nisi from his wife on the ground of desertion. James Collier, of Wellington, was granted a decree against his wife, Jessie Collier, on similar grounds. The Promier to-day promised a subsidy of £IOOO to the Wellington Industrial Exhibition.
