Received 12.37 a.m., Deo. 9 London, Dec. 8. Colonel Mahon, Governor of Kordopan, with 200 Khartoum camelry, 200 infantry from Elobeid, and two Maxims, made a forced march of 200 miles through the desert from Fachestowe to Togalla. He surrounded and captured Mahdi Mahomed Elamin, a Tunisian, who had already gathered many followers. Elamin was tried and hanged at Elobeid. The success of the operations was due to their extraordinary rapidity, as on the slower return journey three-fourths of the troops‘were stricken down with fever.
