As showing the urgent necessity that exists for another telograph wire to Gis* borne via Tiniroto, we may state that the head postmaster and his son were engaged telephoning press messages to Gisborne until 2 o’clock on Saturday morning. The cause of this was that messages could only be telegraphed as far as Wairoa owing to a break in the line.—Wairoa Guardian.
Prosecuted for allowing gaming on Ira premises, a Dublin publican set up the defence that he was an adjudicated bankrupt, and an order had been made vesting the property in the official assignee, he was not within the law a licensed person.
