Dixon, is to take up the duties next week. Adjourned meeting of painters will be held at tbe-Record Reign Hotel on Monday evening at 8 o’clock. A black fur lost at the Theatre Royal last evening is advertised for. Country patrons aro again reminded that to-night’s train will not leave town until after the performance of " The Gates of Bondage ” by the Woods-Williamson Company;

A fine mob of 500 prime sheep arrived from Mr Win. Cooper’s Te Hua Station (Mangatu) on Thursday lost for Gisborne Freezing Works, Mr Jas. Scott being in oharge. Several choice sections at Kaiti will be Bold by Messrs Williams and Kettle on Saturday, December 5, under instructions from the trustees in tho estate of the late Mr E. F. Harris. General town properties will be sold on the same day. Tho Rev. W. Welsh will conduct divine service in the Mangapapa schoolroom at 3 to-morrow afternoon.

The main road from Frasertown to Lake House is reported to be in splendid condiion, despite the late storm. Mr James Mncfarlane shipped a choice pen of twelve Border Leicester rams by tho s.s. Weka yesterday to Messrs Murray Boberts and Co., of Napier. Wesley Church services on Sunday will be conducted in the morning by Mr W. Smith, from Nottinghamshire, Engldud. In the cveniug Bev. B. F. Bothwell’s subject will be, “ How Divino Justice will cut off your Thumbs and Toes.” Young men specially invited. Bev. B. F. Bothwell, statistical secretary for tho Wellington district, informs us that at the Synod which sat in Masterton last week all the returns showed a gratifying incronse. A number of new erections were reported ; church members and Sunday scholars showed an advance upon all previous years. T.vo places asked for additional ministers,' viz., Greytown and Otaki. The members of the Synod wore royally entertained by the residents, and came away with glowing opinions of tho capital of Wairarapa. At the half-yearly summoned meeting of Lodge Turanganui, No. 7, U.A.0.D., held in the lodge room, Masonic Hall, Childers road, on Thursday evening, Bro. W. 0. Skeet, A.D., presided. In the matter re changing the dates of quarter night, it was duly ‘ resolved, after discussion, that the Lodge still adhere to the present arrangement. The illuminated address presented to Bishop Lcnihan by tha pupils of St. Mary’s Convent School was the work of the Sisters of Mercy.

At the Police Court yesterday a halfcaste named Arthur Stovens was charged with disorderly conduct. He was convicted, and fined 10s, costs 2s, in default four hours’ imprisonment. Yesterday at the Supreme Court in Chambers, before Mr W. A. Barton, Registrar, on the application of Mr Nolan, probate to the will of thß late Andrew Reeves was granted to Andrew Ernest Reeves and Harold Evitt Maude, the executors.

Yesterday morning Messrs Dalgeoy and Co. held a sale of P.akauroa property, when Mr Donald McKenzie’s farm of 600 acres was offerod. Tho property was sold at £BB7 to Mr T. G. Lawless. Mr A. T. Ritchie’s property of 500 acres was passed at £450. Mr Hellior Evans officiated as auctioneer.

Among the passengers by this morning’s steamer is Mr H. J. Blow, Under-Secre-tary for Public Works. Personal visits of this nature are worth more than reams of foolscap in making the heads of departments acquainted with tho wonderful resources and urgent necessities of the district.
