SALE OF EESTETON ESTATE,
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night,
The case of Garrick v. Copeland, arising out of the sale of the Hcsteton Estate, was continued to-day, Mr Harper concluding his evidence for tho defendant early in the afternoon. Mr Skerrett submitted there was no case calling for rebutting evidence, as fraud was not proved by the defendant, and there was no evidence adduced of conspiracy between Garrick aud Matson. Judge Donniston said if the ease were before the jury he could not direct that the plaintiff was entitled to a nonsuit on the defendant’s afiiimative evidence, but it was optional for the plaintiff to closo tho ease aud rely on tho legal points. Mr Skerrett asked for time to consider, and the case was adjourned till to morrow.
SWIMMING. Tho Canterbury centre of the Swimming Association has decided to appiy for a hundred yards and a quarter mile New Zealand championshipa to be hold at Lyttelton on New Year's Day.
