DESERTERS IMPRISONED.

(Per Press Association.) Westport, last night. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day two firotnon, named William White and Edward Mackio, who desortod from the s.s. l'aviuni just as she was on tho point of sailing for Suva via Auckland at midnight on Monday, wore convicted and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment in Auckland. Tho desertion caused the Taviuni to miss the tide, and very nearly missed tho connection with tho Vancouver service at Suva.
