WOODS-WILLIAMSON DRAMATIC CO.
The interest in the short season of the Woods-Williamson Company, which eventuates at the Theatre Royal on Saturday eveniog next, grows more manifest daily. Tho members of tho combination supporting tho two stars, Mr Alfred Woods and Miss Williamson, aro visiting Gisborno for tho first time, and may bo said to have been solected from tho principal companies throughout both Australia and the Old Country, and include some of the finest exponents of dramatic art that have over visited Now Zealand. Amongst the loading members may bo mentioned Mr Hugh Buckeer, an actor of repute, who was recently imported, and who for a number of years was connected with Mr Wilson Barrett and; Mr Beorbohu Tree both in London an<f the provinces; Mr George Hassell, another recent importation, together with Penley. Walter Beid and Keith Monckton como to us from Amoriea, whore they have appeared uodor many of the most prominent managements in the States. Mr A. W. Boothman, Mr Harry Beaumont, Mr Ben Linden, Ernest Knight, HaJry Noville, and Harry Ellis are all well known in Australia, having appealed under tho managements of Mr J. C. Williamson and Mr Geo. Musgrove. Among tho ladies new to this colony is Miss May Oarloon, a very charming soubretto, who came to Australia recently under Mr Alfred Woods’ engagement. Miss Emily Lambton, Miss Carl Boyle, Miss Olivo Emerlf, and Miss Barry Seine, are all appearing hero for the first time. “ The Gates of Bondage,” which will form the opening bill on Saturday evening, is vivid with action from start to finish, and is so neatly blended with lines
of genuino humor aud pathos that the sensational actions of tho pieco make as lino a production as could be desired, Every character, however small, is wall and definitely sketched, and ample opportunity is therefore given to display tho histrionic abilities of this fiuo Company. Mr Alfred Woods will bo seen as Dan Mybea, tho Bishop’s son, while Miss Maud Williamson is cast for Mona Myhoa, tho Deemster’s daughter. On Monday, the oOth instant, “ The Christiau ” will be produced, and on Tuesday “ Hands Across the Sea.” The box plons, which are filling rapidly, aro now open at Mr W. Miller’s. In order to give country patrons an opportunity to witness tho production of “ Tho Gates of Bondage ’’ on Saturday evening tho train will bo dolayod until 11 p.m,
