Tliu fortnightly meeting of the ahovo was held last night, there being present :-The Mayor (Mr I ownley., and Crs Kennedy, Morrison, Lysnar, Uepaurn, Johnston, ; Miller, Harding, and Spmcrvell. THE, BRIDGE,
The following letter was received from the Whataupoxo Road Board : At the meeting ol the Board, tne question of the proposed Taruheru bridge was iully discussed,, and tne following resolution was ca.rr.ed ‘ That a copy of the objections as unproved be forwarded at once to tile Borough Council, With a request for a conference at the earliest potsible date, with a view to arranging if possible suitable change of site •and modification of tne proposal ; and failing any such arrangement being made, that the objections as approved he sent on to the Governor. A copy of the objections as approved is enclosed.” ~ , : The Mayor said they should take part in any conference held, lie moved that the whole Council be a denutation to incot the Harbor Board in reierence to the bridge question. Or Morrison seconded the-motion, .which was carried. < The Town Clerk said that B..iu i>.m. had been fixed as the time of .the conference, 011 Thursday night.
MACHINERY,, Messrs Booth, Macdonald, and Co., Christchurch, sent quotations for traction-engine and road-roller, rockcrusher, and waggon for conveying broken metal..—Received. REPORTS, Mr E. Wilkinson mauo tho following report:—I havo inspected the thirteen dairies thut ut present supply milk to the borough. The yards, sheds, &0., are all boiug ires fairly clean, and the cattle are looking in good condition, and appear to bo healthy. Complaints uro being made by dairymen that certain persona are sup* plying milk within the borough without a license, aud the complainants wish your Couocil to enforce too by-law in regard to this matter. The following toats of milk hngp' been made with a iuctometor: — Willan 32, Bell 32, Baty 32, Wilson 32, Moroll 32, Griffon 31, Willoughby 30, Goldio 30, LiUUoll 29, Martin 29, Pile 29, JBrowrjo 29, and Williams 27. The milk on tho whole is of a fair quality. Tho following aro the number of cows being milked at tho respective dairies Willan 42, Bell 33, Pile 22, Baty 20, Wilson 20, Goldie 20, Willoughby 20, Williams 14, Martin 23, Morel! 11, Liddell 11, Grilfeu 10, Browno 0. I’hOi'O aro three dairies employed in making butter, namely, Willan 3301bs per month, Bell 130.ba per mouth, and Wilauu 170los pur month. This makes a total output of 6301ba per mouth.
Tho Overseer reported Esplauado road, Katti: fcjiuco your last meeting 1 have repaired tho cart bridge on this road. Tho decking being very much worn, it required to ho almost renewed. No metal has beau carted or uroltau on this road ioi Che last week. As authorised 1 have com rnouced tho well aud inlet at the fire station, but tho weather breaking gave u» a grout deal oi extra woik. it is tberelore not sih, iar advanced us it otherwise would have been. Patching tho roads and other ordinary works have also been carried out during the Just fortnight. Btono contract i Tho contractors lor tins work are carrying out their contract satisfactorily ; stuno delivered to date 3uß yards. 1 would recommend progress payment on same. TOWN. CLOCK,
Mr Arthur E. Williams, London, .wrote 1 beg to thauk you lor your letter of the 7th ult. enclosing draft lor. £5, which I very much appreciate. 1 propose to expend this on a clock for my house, which will always remind me of Gisborne and jts town clock. I was very pleased to hear that the clock was successfully started, and I trust that it Wil: always go well. Kindly convey my thanks to the Borough Council, and my congratulations on the suceegit of their cllorts to provide the town with a first-rate clock.”
Messrs J. Langford, A. Slade, E. Sampcy. J. Hamilton, and A. Kenny wrote, stating that the Council had promised that as soon as the shingle arrived from Kaitaratahi the portion of Aberdeen road situated between Carnarvon and Disraeli streets shoujiL be taken in hand and rendered passable. They complained .that nothing more has been done in the matter, and asked the Council to consider this before the season is over..
In reply to Cr Hepburn, the Town ;Clerk said that the Council had promised to have tho footpath done ; the owners would have to pay half .of that.
Cr Hepburn : Perhaps, they don’t know cthat.
The Mayor said that it was not a question of memory ; it was one of funds. He cited the case of other streets, work on which could not he ■done, for the reason that the funds .were not available. For that reason they had to stop" getting more metal. lie also mentioned that the fetter was not couched in the most lespectful language. In any case the Council was not in a position to do anything at present. The Clerk was instructed to write, and expiain, the position in regard to contributing to the workj
