CRICKET.

WAERENGA A-HIKA V. KARAKA.

On Saturday last the Waerenga-a-hika cricket toam journeyed to Karaka to try couclusinns with the local team. The weather, though cold in the morning, improved as the day wore on, and a very enjoyable day’s cricket was the result. Roth teams were short and several substitutes had to be mustered. Waerenga a-hika, captained by Raymond, won the toss and elected to bat. Owing to tho tine innings of Raymond, whose batting was greatly admired, the visitors put together the respectable total of 80 before the 10th wicket fell. Foote and Andrews bowled best for the home toam. Smith and Andrews commenced batting operations for Karaka, and were Dot separated till 'SO appeared on the board, when Andrews retired after compiling 19 in his t usual good style. Smith saw several men lose their wickets before he was caught. He played cautiously at first but soon livened up and played pretty cricket, his square cutting being a treat to watch. None of the other members did much, oxcopt Morgan, who hit oat rigorously, and knocked up 11 in a very short time. Tho inniDgs closed for 89, Karaka winning by nine runs on tho first innings. Much applause was given to Koro, the young Native, for his bowling and fielding, and to F. Morgan ,for his smartness behind the wickots, Saturday being his first appearance on a oricket field.
