PALMERSTON N., last night,

Messrs -Abraham and Williams conducted a sale of purebred and grade cattle at Messrs Mcllardy. Bros.’ Beaulieu stud farm on Saturday, Mr 0. Norritt acting as au»c----t oneer. About 500 persons wore present, including buyers from Canterbury, Southland, and Auckland. The total amount realised by, .the sale was £4,943 12s, averaging £.40 8s Bd, which is regarded as highly satisfactory. The largest buyers were—A. McKenzie, Wairarapa, on behalf of tho McMaster Estate, 078 guineas ; McLean, Hawke’s Bay, 521 guineas ; Ratbbone,; Waipawa, 510 guineas ; J. Gillies, Wairarapa. 220 guineas ; N. D. Holms, 153 guineas ; Professor Lowlie, Lincoln College, 151 guineas ; Flume, Wairarapa, 159 guineas; Pearce,. Palmerston, 170 guineas.The largest price realised was. for a bull calf by Earl Somerville the 57th, with the cow thrown in—22sgs. The bidding in this instance was spirited between McLean,. McKenzie, and Gainsford, and others, the lot falling to. Mr Gainsford. A roan bull by Connaught the 19th was bought by J. Gillies, of Wairarapa, for 180 gs. A red bull by, Duke of Derrimut, a splendid animal, was secured by Professor Lowrie, of Lincoln College, for 151 gs. A bull by Waterloo, Earl Sockburn the third was bought by Mr Ratbbone, of Waipawa, for 140 •gs. The judge at the Palmerston (Show said that this animal was the best bull in Australasia.

A fine bull by Connaught the 19th went to Mr Johns, of Canterbury, for 105 gs. Mr G. Maine, of Wairarapa, bought a (lark roan hull by Bolinda, Duke of Derrimuh for 135 gs. Tlie grade shorthorns brought good prices. After the and the grade sales the dairy cattle were put up, hut the prices were only fair.
