The Protectionists of Victoria have ■decided to -nominate Ministerial candidates for scats held by Labor; nominees in Western Australia. There are three Ministerial, three Freetrade, and three Labor candidates announced for the Senate, The opening of the Pacific cable caused a large loss to the Indian Government. The revenue suffered to the extent of 78.43 per, cent. At the National Ride meeting Cutler, of Bathurst, won the King’s prize, with a score of 323, being the world’s record for the King’s distance. In one match Cutler put ten shots and a sighter through .the bull’s-eye. The High Court decided that the Commonwealth was bound, to pay officers transferred from a State the
same salary as the State paid at the time they were transferred. The decision will mean that an additional £60,000 will be charged against Victoria in the Federal books.
