The .Thames Harbor Board Empowering Bill, which lias passed ail its stages in the House of Representatives, authorises the Board to sell the Thames Borough .Council land for a recreation ground, an amendment being made providing that the proceeds of the sale must he used for repayment of the Harbor Board’s existing loan of £10,000,.

The Native Affairs Committee recast the Native Land Hating Bill; it now provides that all native lands acquired by, purchase or lease have to pay full rates, and that the 1 Ctov-ernor-in-Councii may declare any other native lands liable lor full ratesj A drowning accident occurred in the Waikato river, at Taupitf, ~ on Monday alternoon, Peter King, aged about 17, being the victim. I-Ie and his brother were crossing the river in a flat-bottomed boat. There be* ing no seat in the boat, they, were landing up to paddle, when in changing hands, .the lad overbalanced and fell in, at the same time overturning tlie boat. ing hampered, with his clothes, was unable to do so, and then it took him all his time to reach .the shore himself.
