WOOL SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH
Per Press Association. * Christchurch, last night. The first wool sale of the season was held to-day. There was a large attendance ot buyers. The catalogues comprised 4676 bales, and the bulk of the wool came forward in fair condition. Bidding was somewhat irregular through the sale ; generally speaking, satisfactory prices were realised. Though marking a distinct advance on those ruling at last year’s opening sale, they were considered disappointing in some quarters, but this is probably due to the fact that latest English reports are not reassuring, and London sales are not due until next week. ‘Half locks and Merinos were scarcer usual, and brought keen competition, mainly from factories. The top price for Merino was lOd per lb. Prices ranged as follows Greasy MerTno' super lOd, medium to good BJd to 9.Jd, inferior 7d to Bd, halfbred super B£d to 92d, medium 7]d to Bid, inferior 64d to 7ld, crossbred super 7d to Bd, medium 64d"to 7vd, inferior s;j-d to 64d, long wool super 6|d to 7-Id, interior 5M to 6Jd, pieces and bellies (good) 5d to 7]d, inferior 34& to 4sd, locks 3|d to 4jd.
