A largo number of sightseers gathered on the wharf whon the Kia Ora arrived, and the little craft was aubjocted to close scrutiny. The yacht is in charge of Oaptain H. Euckeridge, who has had considerable experience on the sea. He was ut ono time mate of Captain Voss’s Tilikum, and was also on the Discovery during her Antarctic voyage, so that his life has been full of adventure.
Captain Buckeridgo’s object in coming from Auckland to Oisborne was to make
a trial Crip in the yacht beforo'sailing direct to London. From London ho will proceed to the Bt. Louis exhibition. In one run down from Auckland rough weather was experienced coming across the Lay of Plenty, with heavy seas, and it was hard slogging all the way. A couple of days were spent at Drunken Bay and a day and two nights at Mercury Island out of the nine days since they left Auckland. It was expected that they would cake a fortnight on the trip down the coast. At times the Kia Ora did seven k;
uols aa hour, proving that she has a good turn of speed. The Kia Ora will remain at Gisborne until fclunduy, when she leaves for London direct.
