NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION.
PREFERENTIAL TRADE,
OPPOSITION ATTACK ON GOVERNMENT.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night.
In the House of Representatives at 7.30, Mr Seddon moved the second ‘reading of the Preferential and Reciprocal Trade Bill, which he said was only the first instalment of our assistance to the Mother Country, and ho believed when tho propertime came an extension of our assistance would not bo withhold.
Mr Massey moved as an amendment: “ That while recognising the desirableness of a tariff which will give greater encouragement to trade between’ all portions of the British Empire, tho House is of opinion that thore is not sufficient information on the subject at present available, and therefore tho furthor consideration of the Bill should be postponed until a future date.” This was accepted by Mr Seddon as a vvant-of-confidence motion, and the debate is proceeding.
