Christchurch, last night. At tho Supreme Court Benjamin Davis, aged 72, was found guilty of having indecently assaulted a girl under the age of 16 years. The medical evidence stated that accused was suffering from senile decay and affection of the bladder, whioh was sometimes responsible for parverted sexual feelings. A simple surgical operation, which Davis was wilting to undergo, would remedy this. His Honor said that if accused consented to the treatment, and a certificate was shown him that prisoner could bo released with safety to tho public, ho would recommend his discharge. Meanwhile the accused was sent to' gaol for 12 months. William Powell; aged 73 years, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for having indecently assaulted a young girl at Kaikoura, His Honor said the crime had been deliberate, and had accused boon younger he would have been sent to gaol for a substantial period.
