BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
IMPENDING LEGISLATION.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night.
About fifteen shareholders and two directors, Messrs Kennedy and Watson, attended a special meeting of shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand convened for this afternoon, to consider the impending banking legislation. It was announced that the meeting would not be open to the press. Tho meeting did not last long. A deputation waited on Mr Seddon at 5.30, and a further meeting is being held tonight. No announcement has been yet made of the nature of the proceedings. 11.40 a.m.—lt is stated i/hat at ah interview between the Cabinet and the Board of the Bank of New Zealand, an agreement was arrived at which, although exacting on the part of the Cabinet, wiil yet he found satisfactory to the shareholders, and will probably be embodied in a Bill expected to be laid before the House ■to-morrow.
