BEN AVON WRECK.
VESSEL LIKELY TO BREAK UP.
Per Press Association. Wellington, last night,
A coastal steamer went down to Capo Palliser this morning, and returned tonight with Captain Dixon and the crew of the Ben Avon, except the mate, who remains by the wreck for the present. The barque still stands upright, with sails spread out, idly 7 flapping in the wind. Her holds aro full of water, and when visited by the captain in the morning the decks showed signs of buckling with the first southerly sea, and as there ate indications of bad weather from that quarter to-night the Ben Avon will quickly go to pieces. No inquest was held on Captain McKinnon, the pilot at Wbatarangi, and on the arrival of tho body to night the district coroner, having been informed that deceased suffered from heart trouble, did not think it necessary to hold an inquiry concerning his death. Tho remains were sent South by the Rotomahana for interment at Port Chalmors.
