TWO MEN DROWNED

By Electric Telegraph—Per Press Association—Copyright. Received 9.4 C p.m., Nov. 13. SYDNEY, Nov. 13. The ketch Sir George lias been wrecked near Port Macquarie. Two of the crew were drowned. The remainder are safe.

The Sir George was timber-laden Irom Port Macqifarrie to Sydney. A gale drove her north, and of! Smoky Cape lighthouse a heavy sea struck her, and carried away the rudder, wheel, and bulwarks. Captain Lindberg and two seamen at the wheel were washed overboard. The captain and one man got entangled in the wreckage and managed to get back. Both were injured,. The other man was not again seen.

The captain hound the injured man to the davit, but subsequently a heavy sea breaking aboard washed him overboard.

The ketch became upmanagcable, and drilled on to the rocks, a mile from the lighthouse. The captain was twice again washed overboard. The last time he landed on the rocks and was rescued by the lighthouse-keepers, who also assisted, at great danger to themselves, in rescuing the three other men comprising the crew, after they had been five hours clinging to the rigging. The names of the two men drowned tire believed to be F, Peppin and J. Olssen.

The Sir George was insured in the National New Zealand Office for £IOOO.
