' At the wool sales competition is a little better. A few lots were quitted at a trifle higher prices, though there is no general; recovery. There were many withdrawals. Greasy merinos sold to 10;}-d, scoured 20d. Melbourne, Nov. 12. At tho wool sales competition was brisk. Prices show a Blight tendency to improve. Napier, last Dight.. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company cables: —“Frozen meat market to-day, quotations: Canterbury mutton, 4£d; Napier, Wellington and North Island, Sgd ; first quality lamb sd, second 4Jd; beef, hindquarters sis d, fores 2 3-Bd.”

Received 10.9 p.m., Nov. 12. Melbourne, Nov. 12. Tallow : Fair sized parcels of mixed have been sold for shipment. The local demand is dull. The prices is 10s per ton lower. Hides: Average and mediumare very firm at latest-quotations. Nips have advanced a farthing.

WaERENGA-A-HIKA stock sale

Messrs Common, Shelton and <3o. j Limited, and Dalgety and Co., Limited, held their periodical sale of stock at tne Waerenga-a hika yards on Thursday, 12tn instant. Mr Kells officiated for the former firm and Mr Hellier Evans for ‘Ealgefcy and Co., Limited. There was a large attendance of the public, and for good lines bidding was brisk. Prices were on a par with previous sales, although inferior lines showed a slight decrease. The yarding consisted of 280 cattlo and 1400 sheep, which, with the exception of one or two lines, wore sold under the hammer. The following prices woro realised : —Cattlo . Dairy cows and hoifers TO to .-£7 15s, run. cows £5, heifers in calf £4 17s 6d, inferior sorts £3 15s, yearling shorthorn bull £9 10s, good yearling dairy heifers £4 6s, calves 40s to 48s, yearlings 52s 6d, 2 and year steers £4 15s to £5 ss, 8 year bullocks passed at £6 10s. Sheep: Shorn hoggets (mixed sexes) 10s 6d, woolly hoggets (mixed sexes) passed at 13s 3d, dry full-mouth ewes 11s 3d to 12s 6d, ewe hoggota (shorn) 10s, wethers (shorn) 10s 7d. Pigs: Porkors 12s 6d, young Berkshire sows 225. Wo also soli a few horses at satisfactory pricos. Our next sale will be held on December 3rd, when we anticipate a good entry.
