GIRDLING THE EARTH.

Wellington, last night. Professor Otto Klotz, astronomer for the Dominion of Canada, who is engaged upon the task of girdling tho earth astronomically, arrived in Wellington by the Victoria to-night from Sydney. _ The cirdlo has been carried from Greenwich to Canada, thence across tho continent of America to Vancouver. From Vancouver it is laid to Fanning Island, from Fanning Island to Suva, from Suva on to Norfolk and before leaving Australia he made the connection between Norfolk Island and Southport, the terminus of tho Pacific cable. He is to continue his work at Doubless Bay, and will then return to Australia.
