STRONGLY WORDED RESOLUTIONS.

Per Press Association. Wellington, last night,

A meeting of the publio held to-night under the auspices of the N.Z. Alliance to protest against the Licensing Bill, passed the following resolutions “ That this meeting expresses its gratitude to the supporters of the popular cause in the House of Representatives who have organised regardless of party, to resist the shameful betrayal of popular rights which is proposed at the instance of the brewers by Mr Seddon’s Licensing Bill, assures them of the hearty support of the friends of liberty and clean politics throughout the colony, and considers that if the Bill becomes law, the paramount question at next election must be to secure the return of honest men pledged to its immediate repeal.”

LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ RESOLUTION.

Pe.R Press Association.. Nelson, last night. At, a meeting of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association held to night, it was resolved to forward the following resolutions to the Premier and member for Nelson 11 That the Nelson Licensed Victuallers’ Association respectfully urges upon the Government to embody in the Licensing Bill now before the Houbb a section providing a fund for adequate compensation to licensees deprived of their licenses, on the lines suggested by Sir Wm. Russell, namely, to place an annual tax on lioensed premises with the addition of an extra duty on beer and spirits, and that this meeting also protests against any interference with existing licenses in contravention of the will of the people expressed at the local option poll.”
